In a sea of West Coast hip-hop releases, Las Vegas, NV-living Henny Holyfield’s music video for “Take An L (Feat. Charlie Muscle)” offers a refreshing dose of vulnerability. Featuring a poignant conversation between Henny and Charlie Muscle, the video confronts the silent burdens we carry, ultimately finding a moment of connection and calm amidst the struggle.
Henny, born and raised in San Jose and who later moved to Sacramento where he made a name for himself as one of the top tiered artists in the valley with tracks like, “WIN (Feat. Mr. F.A.B.)” and “No Other Place Like California (Feat. Alize Ali x Dirk Dig x Classik Mussik,” that are anthem-based to heavier tracks that are on a more personal note such as “Go Grandma (Feat. Aaron Le)” and “Take An L (Feat. Charlie Muscle).”
“Take An L, (Feat. Charlie Muscle),” produced by The Young Mentals, who are made up of Colt 45 and 5150 is one of Henny’s new tracks on his newest album, “Glass Half Full.” His official music video for “Take An L,” produced by BUB DA S.O.P., just dropped July 17, where both Henny, who leads the song, along with Charlie Muscle delve into the struggles one has in life, the ones we don’t speak about and how that can carry with us. Our favorite part is when Henny explains to Charlie Muscle in the video that he has gone through struggles too, giving him a piece of calm.
On a more personal note, myself – this track resonated with me deeply as I sort through my own personal trauma. It helped me to understand that I am not the only one going through the same type of struggles. I hope “Take An L” brings you some solace like it brought for me.
