In an era where modern health statistics indicate that one out of every two individuals will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, preventive wellness and holistic care have shifted from alternative concepts to urgent daily necessities. For singer-songwriter, health coach and activist Aire Redtree, who is also the featured Digital Cover for UBO MAG’s July issue, that reality became a personal battleground that transformed her life’s work into a mission of holistic healing.
Her latest release, 108 Ways to Slay Cancer Like a Samurai: A Guide on How to Save Your Own Life, serves as a comprehensive manual designed for individuals managing chronic conditions, cancer diagnoses, and autoimmune diseases, as well as those seeking to maintain long-term vitality.
Published through Redtree Publishing on Feb. 14, 2025, and available digitally through Amazon Kindle Publishing, the guidebook is the first entry in a planned five-book series titled The Autoimmunity Dojo. Learn more about how to purchase the book at SlayCancer. Rather than presenting her findings as a substitute for traditional medicine, Redtree emphasizes a collaborative model for patient care.
“The material in this book is not intended to diagnose, cure or treat any disease,” Redtree said. “It is, however, an A to Z guidebook written with the intention of helping you to ‘Slay Cancer Like a Samurai’ alongside your oncology team to add an arsenal of natural remedies that compliment and enhance your protocol. Using an integrative approach, such as blocking metabolic pathways to starve cancer with specific foods and targeted natural remedies.”

Redtree explicitly advises readers to work closely with medical professionals and oncologists throughout their care. Her perspective stems from more than two decades of managing chronic illness, during which she tested integrative strategies to discover practical health solutions.
Born in New Jersey and raised near Chicago, Redtree built a nearly 30-year career in music, blending folk and electronica while channeling her creative efforts into social activism. Inspired as a child by folk singer Harry Chapin, she relocated to Los Angeles in 1996 and founded HER Music (Heal Earth Rite) in 1997, which evolved into the 501(c)(3) charity Beats For Peace in 2001. Through Beats For Peace, she has produced over 100 events across California to raise funds for global hunger relief and social causes.
However, Redtree’s trajectory altered dramatically in 2015 following a severe adverse reaction to Ciprofloxacin (Cipro), a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. The resulting physical injury confined her to a wheelchair for 7.5 years and temporarily halted her musical career.
In response to the disability, Redtree initiated a complete overhaul of her lifestyle in 2011, eliminating processed foods, soda, and sugary snacks in favor of an organic, whole-food diet. Following four years of intensive detoxification, she experienced significant recovery, prompting her to pursue formal certification as a mitochondrial biophysics health coach and Theta Healer.
Her health journey faced another major hurdle on Dec. 29, 2019, when she received an initial breast cancer diagnosis, which progressed to a stage 4 prognosis by 2022. Now in a stable condition, Redtree utilizes her experience as a survivor and disability advocate to offer free health coaching to others navigating complex diagnoses.
“At one point, I had a list of 81 and then once I hit the 100 mark, I landed on 108,” Redtree said regarding the compiled remedies in the book, noting that her overarching mission is to help identify 100 viable natural strategies to support recovery.
Dedicated to her mother Bonni, her father Gary, her twin sister Ali, her caregiver Erin Waters, her health and healing team and countness friends and connections she has made with others, the book highlights the necessity of a strong support system during recovery.
Redtree expressed deep gratitude for Waters, who assisted with input on the book’s cover and interior layout while “providing their gentle, loving presence as a dedicated caregiver and friend — which has allowed me to focus on my healing, full time.”
The publication features cover illustrations by Heather Mtz and Nate Gomez, with editing and formatting completed by Sara Glass and Hannah Lewis Valentine.
As class opens for all in The Autoimmunity Dojo, Redtree continues to expand her literary and musical outreach, with the second volume of the series, Slay Cancer Kitchen, scheduled for release ahead of the 2026 holiday season.
