Getting Involved With Your Community

It’s the new thing to do – or so it seems.  Getting involved with your community is a must and teaches us all to respect each other as well as our neighborhoods.  Everyone is talking about getting involved.

“When you choose to serve — whether it’s your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood — you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That’s why it’s called the American dream,” states President Barack Obama. 

There are several ways that you can get started today.  You can pick up trash in your neighborhood, recycle, compost and plant an organic garden and share, trade with neighbors.  You can get involved with local non-profit organizations such as The Boys and Girls Club, Food Not Bombs, Loaves and Fishes, Jobs That Matter, Sacramento Food Bank or start one of your own.  Maybe you are a visual artist, dance instructor or a music producer; you can use your skills to open up a studio for children to learn more about the arts.

Getting involved means that we need to get beyond ourselves and think of others, especially in these hard economic times.  This is what will help us to succeed in our communities.
