‘Everything Has A Story’ At Oakland’s Opus Open Mic
By Chloe Williams
Opus Open Mic is more than an open mic night; it is an immersive art experience that is coordinated and hosted by author Chloe Williams, #OOM is a monthly event, rooted in storytelling and community building.
“Everything has a story at Opus Open Mic.” Williams explains, “From the art on the gallery walls, down to custom Opus herbal blend at our complimentary tea bar, every little detail tells its own story.”
This experience isn’t just for poets, it is for artists and storytellers of all kinds. In addition to open mic entertainment, Opus Open Mic also offers complimentary refreshments to enjoy during the show.
Every month the Joyce Gordon Gallery highlights a new visual artist, and every month #OOM highlights a performing artist as their feature performance.
During the month of December 2022, Opus Open Mic is thrilled to welcome Sacramento, CA resident Deborah Armstrong to set the tone for the night Sunday, December 11. The Opus Open Mic website celebrates the talent of Deborah Armstrong in the following excerpt:
“Profound, self-aware and vivid, Deborah Armstrong has been winning over crowds with her prolific musings for over ten years. Creating imagery that is at times cinematic, and always enchanting, Debbie lures listeners into the depths of her soul with her poetry.
As Sacramento’s first Youth Poet Laureate, Debbie continues to set the tone and standard for poets to come as Opus Open Mic’s first featured artist.”
Armstrong got her start as a short story writer and poet in Stockton, CA where she is from and when she started getting her poetry out there at her middle school called, “W.O.W.” Tickets are available now on Eventbrite for just $10. Enjoy open mic entertainment, featured poetry from Deborah Armstrong and complimentary refreshments at the Joyce Gordon Gallery with us Sunday, December 11 at 7 PM.
