LOS ANGELES — In an era where machine-made tracks flood the digital landscape and music is routinely stripped of its human soul, Los Angeles bass virtuoso, music producer and Funk Master Funkonaut steps forward as a certified funk avenger.
With raw hands, real sweat, and a bass guitar that bleeds pure electricity, his frontline single “Up In This Bitch” delivers a heavy, defiant warning shot: real funk was never meant to be generated, simulated, or approximated—it was meant to be felt.
Born Victor Taylor, Funkonaut is deeply rooted in the historic Leimert Park scene as a veteran Project Blowed artist. Founded in 1994 as an open-mic workshop, affiliated underground Hip Hop crew, and record label in Los Angeles, Project Blowed stands as a legendary pillar of Southern California’s creative history, nurturing generations of emcees, producers, dancers and graffiti artists. Carrying that lineage into deep space, Funkonaut fuses 1970s-style cosmic bass groove, retro funk-driven rap, and intergalactic folklore, bringing a complete multi-media funk-opera to life through music, visuals and afro-futuristic storytelling.
Having collaborated with iconic figures ranging from Los Angeles’ own Ice Cube and The Lench Mob to Bronx legend KRS-One, Funkonaut pairs his hometown Leimert Park instrumentation with free-flowing lyricism and an unyielding commitment to organic musicianship.
“Real funk can’t be replaced.“

Written, arranged, and performed entirely by Funkonaut—who handles all instruments, programming, and lyrics—“Up In This Bitch” features his signature XBASS cutting through synthetic noise like a weapon forged for sonic battle. As automation threatens to swallow the groove whole, Funkonaut plants his boots, raises the bass, and reclaims the throne for analog soul, proving that no algorithm can ever replace the genuine pulse of West Coast funk.
