SACRAMENTO, CA—In an era where Hip Hop trends often cycle faster than a beat loop, Sacramento stalwarts C Plus and Nash Boogie have merged their decades of dedication into a definitive new project. The duo, long recognized as major players in the Northern California scene, recently dropped their collaborative album, Band of Brothers: There’s No Business Like Grow Business, a work that serves less as a conventional album and more as a manifesto for the grown man’s hustle.
The project is anchored by the standout track “Cutlass,” mixed and mastered by Rocca Varnado (BluPrint Capital) and produced by Nash Boogie, is a slappin’ West Coast anthem featuring Bay Area veteran Mistah F.A.B. The song’s central theme, “There’s No Business Like Grow Business,” provides the framework for the album—a musical exploration of the life lessons, fortune, and challenges faced by three mature artists navigating life and industry while remaining authentic and ‘still in those streets.’
C PLUS: THE VOICE OF “OATMEAL RAP”
Chaz Wheeler, known professionally as C Plus, brings a wealth of lyrical depth and entrepreneurial savvy to the joint project. His stage name—’C for Chaz, Plus for positivity’—reflects his career-long mission to deliver conscious, thoughtful music.
The Natomas native first gained attention with his local pride anthem, “Black and Purple,” a rendition of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” that showed love to the Sacramento Kings. He initially cut his teeth with the Sac local group State Cap before launching a prolific solo career with projects like the EP Rental$ and his debut album, All C.I.T.Y. (2011), an acronym for ‘Creative. Intelligent. Troubled. Youth.’
C Plus famously coined his sound “oatmeal rap,” emphasizing its longevity and substance over disposable party tracks. Influenced by conscious rap like A Tribe Called Quest and Talib Kweli, his verses are known for their poetic storytelling, fast flow and honest look at life, family, and the hustle. For Band of Brothers, C Plus continues his mission, aiming to inspire listeners, particularly those who, like him, struggled with being “mixed kids” while growing up, he told the now defunct Submerge Magazine (2010).
NASH BOOGIE: THE ARCHITECT OF REALITY RAP
On the production side, Stimmy “Primetime” Kravitz, known in the local Sacramento Hip Hop community as Nash Boogie, provides the backbone of the album, reinforcing his reputation as a versatile artist, producer and the CEO of Common Ground Media, which operates as a record label and publishing company for such projects as Nash Boogie’s Gentrification (2018).
Boogie’s signature style is “reality rap,” a sound driven by authentic street-level narratives, social commentary and an emphasis on real-life experiences and social injustice. His production aesthetic is notably influenced by the classic, sample-based beats of East Coast and Midwest Hip Hop—a sound he felt was missing in his local scene.
The producer has a history of high-quality solo output, including the 2020 projects Gentrification (2018) and Instant Gratification (2020), along with the album Eminent Domain. Beyond the music itself, Boogie is known for his innovative marketing approach: he once sold his albums on personalized MP3 players shaped like cassette tapes or hot wheels, offering a physical collector’s item in a digital age.
Boogie’s slappin’ ass theatrical beat for “Cutlass” is the perfect engine for the track, which stands out as a “growers blueprint” that highlights the wisdom earned through grinding. With previous collaborations with major names like Larry June, Nash Boogie’s work on Band of Brothers ensures the album hits with the weight of experience and the punch of meticulous production.
BAND OF BROTHERS: THE MANIFESTO
The duo’s latest collaboration, which was released on September 29, 2025 (according to reports and where it is available) on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube and other platforms, brings together C Plus’s hard-earned lyrical wisdom and artistic direction and Nash Boogie’s signature street sound and hard lyricism. It’s an album that speaks to the pressures and rewards of pursuing a career independently, using their music as a means to achieve financial stability and remain grounded. The “Cutlass” single is currently available on various music platforms—a bouncy West Coast beat that ensures this collaboration will be weaving through traffic and playlists for years to come.
